Haemieupseong Fortress was built as barrack fortress early Joseon Dynasty and remained as one of the most well-preserved level fortress. During late Joseon, Catholic believers were persecuted at the Fortress and such history is bringing a host of pilgrimage visitors. In 2014, Pope Francis paid a visit to the Fortress.
Haemieupseong Fortress was built as a barracks castle in the early Joseon Dynasty and is the best preserved Pyeongseong among the Eupseong of the Joseon Dynasty. It is also the site of persecution of Catholicism in the late Joseon Period and many pilgrims visit every year. Pope Francis has also visited it in 2014.
Ganworam Rock, famous for its beautiful sunset is a place where the evening sunset colors the sea red. Ganworam Rock is a mysterious place that turns into an island when the seawater comes in and becomes a land when it flows out. It is called Ganworam because it is said that Master Muhak of King Taejo of Joseon saw the moon and gained enlightenment here.
Rock-carved Triad Buddha built during late Baekje gives subtle change to Buddha’s smile depending on where light comes from. How harmonious the smile of Buddha comes with light makes viewers appreciate the art of work. Visitors can enjoy Standing Sakyamuni Buddha on the left and Pensive Maitreya on the right.

Seosan Cheonsu Bay, globally recognized migratory bird sanctuary, was reborn as migratory bird ecology park with an aim of systematically preserving the Bay and revitalizing education-centric ecological tourism. Visitors can enjoy 200 kinds of specimen on display, 4D video pavilion, nest observatory, forest playground and outdoor performance hall, etc.
Seosan Dongbu Market is a traditional market that represents Seosan and one of the biggest markets in northwestern Chungnam Province. Yugibang Old House is famous for daffodil where soap opera was filmed. Though the House is small-scale traditional Korean house consisting of the main house and servant’s quarters, the congenial and harmonious atmosphere catches the eye of visitors. A host of daffodil blossoming under the wall of the House makes the season of spring more beautiful.
Upon the tide, Ungdo Village is connected to the land or disconnected. Depending on when you see the Village, you can enjoy a diverse scenery. As the village is located centering around Garolim Bay, one of the five major wetlands in the world, you can enjoy a variety of ecological resources. The specialty of Ugdo includes small octopus, manila clam, oyster and seaweed to name a few.
